FOLLOW DEADLINE DAY - AS IT HAPPENED...
The January transfer window has now past and Norwich City have completed their business for the day.
The Canaries have signed David Carney, Chris Killen, Alan Gow and Adrian Leijer on season-long loans, plus non-league striker Cody McDonald. Meanwhile, Elliott Omozusi and Arturo Lupoli have had their loan spells at Norwich terminated.
That means City no shows from Andrew Davies, Zander Diamond, Steffen Iversen, Darren Purse, Don Cowie, Wayne Brown and Gary O’Connor, as well as Lee Croft who will have to get back to those contract negotiations.
Thank you for all your updates, gossip and comments. It was a lot fun. See you in August...
5.22pm So are you happy with Bryan Gunn's work? It has certainly been a busy one, and we'll only have to wait until Tuesday at Molineux to see how things begin to pan out. Time to bond is overrated anyway. I'm sure there will be other moves across the country still going through, although the rumour Darren Bent is joining Ipswich on loan is not likely to be one of them! For all the action and reaction on Monday's events, both at Norwich and elsewhere, check out Tuesday's EDP and Evening News.
5.10pm ONE MORE! Phew, I feel like I can take a breath. Last piece of business for Norwich is Arturo Lupoli’s loan deal from Fiorentina, which has been terminated. However, there is no word on where he is destined for yet. But that is officially the last of the transfer activity at Carrow Road today.
5pm (deadline has passed) That's it. The world is over. Well, the transfer window at least.
4.58pm (>2mins!!) It is a race to the finish now. Forget the Chelsea line – word is they are all wrapped up. But what about Norwich? There is still nothing to say they’ve finished, so I would take that as it’s meant.
4.52pm (>8mins) It turns out Inverness midfielder Don Cowie has joined Watford, so we’ll all get to see what Norwich may have missed out on. Former Norwich winger Adrian Forbes has joined Grimsby on-loan, from Millwall. You almost feel like the world will come to an end at 5pm. It won't, honest.
4.51pm (>10mins) Liverpool fans are lapping up the idea Robbie Keane’s exit to Spurs is paving the way for David Villa to join from Valencia. He he…
4.46pm (>15mins) Time is running away. Still no confirmation Andrew Davies will become a Norwich player. It could well be Adrian Leijer’s move has trumped that of the Stoke City defender, however it seems Davies’ move in not a complete write off yet. Still nothing on old Arturo. The move would make sense after his wee little tantrum at the final whistle on Friday night, plus Gunny’s comments at Colney this morning. But no confirmation.
4.41pm (>20mins) Chelsea are said to be interested in Ricardo Quaresma. He has been spotted in London, however Tottenham was expected to be his destination. Either way, it seems the Portuguese midfielder could be heading out of Inter Milan and into the Premier League.
4.33pm (>30mins) It’s all gone quiet everyone. Well, at Norwich at least. Fulham have signed Olivier Dacourt from Inter Milan, while Andrei Arshavin has now passed his medical at Arsenal. And Manchester City have rejected an £8m bid for Michael Johnson. The deals may take until after 5pm to be announced of course, but as soon as I know when Norwich have finished their business, I’ll let you all know.
4.20pm (>40mins) Ian Butterworth latest. Sources say he has NOT resigned his post at Hartlepool, but Butterworth took training at Colney yesterday – which ‘Pool are aware of – and he will be watching tomorrow’s match at Molineux. However, he is still a Hartlepool emplyee. I’m suddenly getting a strange feeling of déjà vu.
4.16pm (>45mins) Big, big news at Wolves. Dr & the Medics will be singing live in the centre-circle at half-time in Tuesday’s Championship encounter. Worth the entrance fee alone, that is.
4.09pm (>60mins) We’re nearly there people! It seems to be settling down again, although Andrei Arshavin could actually be making his move to Arsenal. The Gunners have finally agreed a fee with Zenit St Petersburg for the Russian. But there is plenty of time for that to change. Robbie Keane's medical is done, Liverpool have agreed a fee with Tottenham; look's like Robbie's "dream move" is coming to an end as he's returned to sender.

Is this Iversen from the Beeb? This is an extract from the Beeb's transfer window as it happens page: "The plot thickens: I've had an email from a Swedish punter, telling us that according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, an experienced Swedish player is about to sign for an English club. That's the most brilliantly vague chat I've heard yet.”
MB: Classic transfer deadline fare. By the way, this is doubtful, as Steffen Iversen in Norwegian.
3.58pm (>2hrs) Having sat out so long and finally hoping for a chance, could Simon Lappin really be heading back to St Mirren? That is what has been rumoured on the internet. Elsewhere, Charles N’Zogbia finally joins Wigan for a record fee; Ryan Taylor heads in the opposite direction to Newcastle.
3.53pm (>2hrs) It seems the team who saw a bid turned down for Bristol City striker Dele Adebola (see 12.12pm) was Nottingham Forest. Reports it has been put down as a close escape for Forest fans since are, as yet, unconfirmed.
3.43pm (>2hrs) Apparently Arturo Lupoli is set to join City’s Championship rivals Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season. Whether that’s on-loan from Norwich having bought him for the season, or on-loan from Fiorentina with City’s deal terminated, I don’t know. It’s all gone quite on the Andrew Davies link too, and with Omozusi’s return to Craven Cottage, Gunny is probably short of a right-back now.
PinkUn messageboard: JTG (on Lupoli’s rumoured switch to Sheffield United)
That is the stupidest worse piece of business this club has done if true. Absolutely shocking, a disgrace. How Cureton can get in ahead of Lupoli is beyond belief. Watch Lupoli set the Championship alight at Sheffield United.
PinkUn messageboard: still holding out for new heroes
Cureton's gone to Dartford as part of the Cody deal...Dartford fans have questioned the clubs ambition...
3.26pm (>2hrs) MORE POSSIBLE CITY NEWS! Arturo Lupoli has joined Sheffield United, according to Sky Sports.
3.22pm (>2hrs) It’s all kicked off. Elliott Omozusi (Omozuzu to dear GR) was clearly not in Bryan Gunn’s plans so I guess his return is no surprise. Adrian Leijier was linked with Norwich within days of Gunn’s official appointment. The Australian defender takes Elliott's number 22 shirt. It certainly doesn’t feel like such a threadbare City squad now; Gunn is almost on a transfer trolley dash!
3.11pm (>2hrs) ANOTHER NEWBIE! Fulham defender in, Fulham defender out – just as missing in action? said below. Top work my son. Elliott Omozusi’s stay at Carrow Road ends prematurely, while Australian defender Adrian Leijer joins on loan for the rest of the season.
PinkUn messageboard: missing in action? (on one Fulham defender in, and another going back?)
[Leijer] signed on half season loan, bye bye to suzy though
PinkUn messageboard: M.A.T.T
Watford have said that Jay De-Merit is available for £300,000! This would be a good signing, sort out defence??
2.54pm (>3hrs) Calum Davenport is having a medical… at Sunderland. Let’s hope he still remembers how to play football. Meanwhile, Newcastle are coming in with a few of the trademark deadline deals. They have had a swap deal for Spurs’ Darren Bent turned down, with Obafemi Martins heading the opposite way. The Toon are also being linked with a swoop for Coventry keeper Kieran Westwood.
2.46pm (>3hrs) So for City’s new trio, Cody McDonald has been given the number 27 shirt and Charlton, Crystal Palace and Reading were all reportedly watching the striker. Alan Gow will be number 17 and Chris Killen gets Iwan Roberts’ old shirt – come in number 9. David Carney has already been confirmed as number 11.
2.42pm (>3hrs) So, Norwich confirm Dartford striker Cody McDonald as their second signing of the day. The 22-year-old, who has 19 goals in 20 appearances this season, has joined for an undisclosed fee in a one-and-a-half year deal, with the option of a longer-term stay in future. I make that two strikers now, which could well mean Steffen Iversen and the like will be staying put. In fact, confirmation of Davies’ signature may conclude a busy day’s work at Carrow Road.
2.37pm (>3hrs) NEW SIGINING Norwich confirm Dartfrd Cody McDonald has become a professional footballer and Norwich’s latest signing.
2.35pm (>3hrs) Cardiff’s Joe Ledley is interesting Stoke for a ‘bargain’ £7m. To clarify, for a deal to be done after 5pm there needs to be an email from both clubs agreeing to the transfer in principle and the authorities need to satisfied the weather has prevented the deal going through in time. Clear as mud.
2.26pm (>3hrs) On any possible transfer deadline extension, although moves might be given dispensation to be completed after the official 5pm deadline, they will have to be worked through with the aim of the afternoon deadline. They will only be allowed to go through after it in exceptional circumstances. I’m assuming that means snow, but to be honest it’s more confusing than it needs to be, surely?

I have got a real nervous excited tummy, so far Gunny and the JD have done well this TW, will there be anymore signings? Hope so but past experience tells me not to be overly excited as usually let down lol
2.13pm (>3hrs) Everton make moves, signing Manchester City’s Jo on loan for the rest of the season, while Stoke seal a similar deal for Wigan’s Henri Camara. However, Mark Hughes has decided against forking out £25m to buy Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz. Surprising that.
2.13pm (>3hrs) To update elsewhere, City’s Championship rivals Barnsley have signed Andranik Teymourian on loan from Fulham and Adam Hammill on loan from Liverpool, who was at Blackpool. The Tykes have also bagged Michael Misfud from Coventry on loan. That last one is a good signing you would think, for one of City’s relegation rivals.
2.08pm (>3hrs) One man it seems who will not be coming to Carrow Road is Darren Purse. The Cardiff centre-back virtually ruled out any move a few days ago – despite coming to Norwich for talks. He was pencilled in to play against Arsenal tomorrow night. But then, that game has now been postponed due to the weather… so maybe… Nah.
2.03pm (>3hrs) Boy, is it cold outside. Listening to the radio in the car, Andrei Arshavin’s move to Arsenal is not at a complete dead end. It all comes down to whether the two clubs can agree a deal. Robbie Keane is set to join Spurs for £15m, having cost Liverpool £20m in the summer. I’m not sure the Reds got their money’s worth. Blackburn may also fancy looking for a new winger as Brett Emerton will miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.
1.54pm (>4hrs) Top work Pete, thank you. So, I’m back from Colney and what have I missed? Well, not too much it seems – although word from the training ground has Korey Smith travelling with the squad up to Wolves. Plus Bryan Gunn was at Colney, and when we asked if he’d signed anyone else, he could only manage a smirk. There are more players on their way guys, I’m convinced of it.
1.13pm (>4hrs) Pete: In Michael's absence there's more news on the Robbie Keane to Spurs saga with reports that the Liverpool striker has been granted permission to talk to the London club. Elsewhere in the capital, the adverse weather has hit Tuesday night's Championship fixture list with both QPR versus Swansea and Crystal Palace versus Birmingham City being postponed. Will Norwich's trip to Molineux suffer a similar fate?...
PinkUn messageboard: leedscanary
Have Archant posted a lookout in the car parks of ASDA or Morrisons today?
Pete: No
12.35pm (>5hrs) Colney is calling. I’ll be out for an hour and when I come back, I want signings…
PinkUn messageboard: NCFC1
i have heard that iverson came to england last night and is in norwich talking about a possible transfer, has any1 else heard about iverson
PinkUn messageboard: city4life
I have just heard that we are in for Anthony Gerrard from Walsall. We are apparently buying him for £450,000. I am not sure how true this is so don't hold it against me.
12.31pm (>5hrs) Ian Harte has had his contract at Blackpool terminated, while Sammy Clingan… has made the Northern Ireland squad to face San Marino in their World Cup qualifier. There certainly seem to be some Premier League moves bubbling under the surface – but as yet, nothing to report.
12.25pm (>5hrs) However, Norwich will come up against Hearts’ highly rated defender Christophe Berra, who joins Wolves for £2.3m. Subject to international clearance, that makes Jason Shackell’s appearance against the Canaries tomorrow a little more unlikely. Forest’s bid for Rob Jones has been turned down by Hibernian.
12.12pm (>5hrs) Norwich will not come up against Michael Gray tomorrow night, providing the game goes ahead. Today’s race meeting in the town has been called off, and that is an all-weather surface. Gray joins Sheffield Wednesday on a free, while Bristol City have reportedly turned down a bid for striker Dele Adebola. The question is, who from?
12.09pm (>5hrs) Arsenal’s FA Cup replay with Cardiff at the Emirates on Tuesday night has already been called off because of the weather. You’d expect more to follow suit. Another Gunners line is that Andrei Arshavin’s move to London broke down because of discussions between the two clubs, rather than anything to do with the player. I’m assuming he’s not still hanging around that airport on his mobile phone.
12.05pm (>5hrs) I’m afraid there is going to be a short break this afternoon. No, not for my lunch. Norwich are holding a press conference at Colney ahead of Thursday’s FA Youth Cup tie against Everton. I’ll see if there is anything in the grapevine up there, although I think everyone will have left for Wolves by then.
12.02pm (>5hrs) Aside from player activity, the latest rumour doing the rounds involves Ian Butterworth. Word is he resigned as Hartlepool assistant yesterday. 'Pool and Norwich officials have a strained relationship since Paul Stephenson’s arrival and Norwich are said to have put forward a nominal compensation amount that will increase slightly if City stay in the Championship. We know that talks are ongoing.
11.49am (>6hrs) Apparently there have been tentative discussions between Fifa, the FA and Premier League over possibly extending today’s 5pm January transfer window deadline. Considering it’s already February 2, they might as well go and banish the whole idea now – it’ll probably save them a load of court costs in future. Robbie Keane is on his way to London for talks with Tottenham, who have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Portuguese midfielder Ricardo Quaresma.
11.43am (>6hrs) He may now be a Norwich player but the snow has affected Alan Gow's travel arrangements. Rather than coming straight down from Scotland to be in Norwich today, Gow has had to go to Edinburgh and will fly to Birmingham later today to meet up with his new team-mates. At least he’ll have an evening to learn their names.
11.36am (>6hrs) A bit more on Davies. He is a 24-year-old former Middlesbrough central defender who cost Southampton £1m 12 months ago. Stoke then paid even more for his services in August. He has had a couple of nasty injuries, but would certainly tick a few boxes.
11.28am (>6hrs) BREAKING NEWS - is this the defender Norwich fans have been desperate to see come in? Apparently there are reports Stoke defender Andrew Davies is poised to join Norwich on loan until the end of the season.
11.24am (>6hrs) We had a group of excited visiting students enjoying the hubbub of the sportsdesk on transfer deadline day for a short time earlier. It may be a ridiculous restriction of trade (don't get Mr Roeder started) that will one day be successfully challenged in the same way the Bosman ruling came about, but it’s still brilliant fun.
11.10am (>6hrs) BIG NEWS! Bryan Gunn has officially confirmed he cannot make the opening at Go Ahead Hats in Stalham today. I know, it’s a let down, but let’s hope he makes up for it with a couple of signings before this evening.
10.57am (>7hrs) A few things from leftfield. Apparently the snow could force today’s 5pm deadline to be extended. So if I’m lucky, I could be here all night! Also, Go Ahead Hats at Chapelfield Farm, Stalham are still hopeful Gunny will make their 1pm opening (see 10.01am).
PinkUn messageboard: rieg77 (on Michael Mifsud)
You'd like to think if Barnsley feel they have a chance of signing him then we do too? Should be minimal fee with his contract up in the summer.
10.48am (>7hrs) Norwich are closing in on confirming Ian Butterworth as number two to Bryan Gunn. It’s just a matter of compensation apparently. And Rosenborg were apparently waiting for a renewed bid from City for Steffen Iversen over the weekend, but no news as yet on whether that was made.
10.36am (>7hrs) Apologies - there will be no move for Wayne Brown as he joined Leicester on loan (thank you for the tip off below!). Whether he was one of the six players Norwich were said to be in talks with on Saturday night remains to be seen. Elsewhere, Spurs have apparently made a cash-only bid to Liverpool for Robbie Keane. Now there’s a surprise.
10.25am (>7hrs) In the big spenders’ league, Andrei Arshavin is hanging around an airport after his proposed move to Arsenal broke down, while the television has a man reporting live outside St James’ Park in a blizzard. At least I’m indoors. On a quick aside, it looks like it took Chelsea only a couple of hours to send their appeal against Frank Lampard’s sending off on Sunday. I don’t blame them, it was unbelievable decision.
10.16am (>7hrs) Another name in recent speculation is Hull centre-back Wayne Brown. The former Ipswich defender has been interesting a number of Championship clubs during the month. He’d certainly bring experience. A good call?
10.01am (>7hrs) The Evening News newsdesk has Bryan Gunn down to open a hat shop in Dereham today. Whether it still goes ahead might be a moot point, but if it does, he might well be taking a few new signings with him. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are in for Hibs defender Rob Jones, having been linked with a £400,000 move for City’s Lee Croft this morning. Another Hibs player, Steven Fletcher, looks set for Cardiff.
9.51am (>8hrs) Reports on one site are suggesting another Scottish move is on the cards for the Canaries. Speculation north of the border has Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s pintsize midfielder Don Cowie set to complete a move to Norwich. He wasn’t in the squad that played Celtic at the weekend.
9.28am (>8hrs) First to join is Alan Gow. He will be at Carrow Road until the end of the season, on loan from Rangers. He was impressive for Blackpool during the first part of the season – so much so league leaders Wolves were willing to pay money to secure his services, until he failed his medical. Apparently the hip injury which ended his move doesn’t hamper his ability to play.
9.18am (>8hrs) Transfer deadline day is here again – good times – and you can follow everything to do with Norwich City and beyond as it happens here. Bryan Gunn has already stated his desire for new faces so hopefully it is going to be a busy and exciting day. Visit the PinkUn message board to leave your comments. Chris Lakey and David Cuffley are due back from Colney in an hour – so we should all know more by then.
