Free university places
I know this sounds like a headline on a junkmailing that lands on your doorstep, but apparently the government really is considering free courses. The idea is to offer them to young people who want to stay at home, rather than get digs and live on a diet of cheap cider and tins of Tesco value baked beans. It fills me with horror. Does this mean my kids will still be living at home, Timothy Lumsden style (remember Ronnie Corbett in Sorry!?), when they're nudging 30? Looks like I won't get my wife to myself until I'm far to old to take advantage! Which is good news for her.
On the other hand (EDP leader comment), it may help keep down the hideodorous debts that will keep me chained to my desk until I'm 80. What do you all reckon? Is this brainwave or bunkum?
