The internet order company pushbikehoney.com was launched into an aggressive retail market offering individual cycling accessories and handmade retro bikes last year.
The business aims to put glamour and comfort back into cycling and came about after Penny White was given an elegant Dutch bicycle as a birthday present. Bikes, helmets, bike bags and panniers, baskets, bells and horns and cycling clothing all feature on the site.
'The cycling lifestyle market was an unknown quantity throughout the UK and it was rather a 'suck it and see' approach to business development,' said Ms White.
'Despite fluctuating market conditions we managed to grow and develop our online presence, selling across multi e–commerce channels throughout the UK and expanding into Europe.
'We have completed our first six months of selling and have been growing through reinvestment rather than borrowing.
'Our sales have been gained through social marketing with our customer base recommending us to friends and family.'
Sales have been steady, growing by 60pc on the first period, which Ms White described as 'outstanding'.
Careful expansion was the focus, she added, developing niche products including bespoke items for the discerning lifestyle cyclist.
