Adrian Lee - Flooring supplies.co.uk
One of the first flooring firms to venture out on to the internet, Adrian Lee’s flooringsupplies.co.uk has made itself a market leader.
We were one of the first flooring companies to sell online
It specialises in floorings – solid wood,
engineered floors, laminate, carpets and vinyls.
But unlike some retailers, it sells both to the end
user and to high street blue chip retailers.
Founded in 1985 by Mr Lee as Keswick Flooring,
the operation went online early and now has more
than 40,000 visitors to its websites every day,
resulting in 300 orders a day throughout the UK and
a turnover of £9m.
To maintain its national market leadership, the
firm constantly monitors market movements and
trading patterns as well as alternative marketing and
commercial opportunities.
One of the ways it has diversified recently is to
look at and procure market share with blue chip
retailers.
This led to deals with Next and Littlewoods. More
recently, the firm has also won contracts with B&Q,
Carpetright and Homebase on top of a contract with
Next and Littlewoods.
But ,although those names may be impressive,
the firm’s core business is still flooringsupplies.
co.uk, including its own brand product, Natura.
Own-brand is about 65pc of the firm’s turnover,
with Natura, an IP-protected brand.
The firm is also FSC (Forestry Stewardship
Council) accredited for sustainable sourcing of
wood, an accreditation which takes firms two years
to accomplish.
Flooringsupplies.co.uk says it is the first online
flooring retailer to get the accreditation.
However, Mr Lee still has plans.
“We see huge potential for growth, from £9m to
£12m to £15m in 2010,” said Mr Lee.
“We were one of the first flooring companies to be
selling online and we have a 10 or 11 year history on
search engines.
“With that position we have strength from which
we can go in to Europe.”
