Liftshare.com is a thriving business on the
move, which continues to go from strength to
strength.
The brainchild of engineering student Ali
Clabburn, the pioneering website, which was set
up in 1998, is the UK’s largest car sharing scheme
helping to match would-be travellers with a driving
willing to take them to where they want to go.
And the scheme has gained new impetus since
being featured in last year’s Future50.
“Despite tricky market conditions we managed
to grow, both in terms of clients, we now have 72
new clients, and membership, with 70,000 new
members,” Mr Clabburn explained.
And he added the business had been on the
move in more ways than one.
“We have successfully moved office and now
enjoy faster broadband,” he added.
“The best thing to come out of Future50 was my
connection with Kevin Horne, who offered to be a
mentor. Kevin has been a great help to me and the
business.
“Our three-day business planning session,
suggested by Kevin, was a great success with the
whole team contributing to our vision for the future.
“We increased turnover and have remained about
the same in terms of numbers as 12 months ago.”
The firm is also working on a new product due to
launch later this year. It will be an online tool aimed
at helping businesses cut their travel costs. It is
currently being piloted by a local authority.
