Despite the many problems which have afflicted the holiday industry, from the ash cloud to the credit crunch, business at Economy Car Hire has held up.
And dotcom entrepreneur Rory Sexton, who founded the business, is also looking to expand it with his sights set on £20m turnover in the current financial year.
The business, an online car hire brokerage, focuses on car hire at airports at popular holiday destinations. Although bookings have been relatively static year on year – against a backdrop of a 20pc decline in demand industry-wide – revenues have increased, largely due to higher rental prices caused by lack of availability.
Focus on customer service helps the firm retain customers, with repeat customers accounting for 50pc of its booking volumes – in an industry where 30pc is considered very good.
As well as adding more destinations to increase booking volumes, Mr Sexton has been looking at other ways to increase revenue and efficiency.
“Our plans for the rest of this year involve maximizing our revenue by up-selling further additional products when customers book, such as airport parking and travel insurance,” he said.
“Before the end of the year we will also be launching a website dedicated to the Irish market which will accept payment in Euros. We also continue to improve the efficiency of our business by automating processes, so we can scale our business without necessarily taking on a larger workforce.”
